Kenia was gone for 4 days this week! Here's what happened:
She is studying social media marketing at the LDS Business College, and she had an opportunity to visit Mexico! The President of the LDSBC has arranged for some Mexican students to visit some businesses there. He really wants these students to return to Mexico and help it to grow and flourish. So my wife got to spend 4 days in Querétaro and Mexico City and talk to a number of different businesses there.

That means that I was left alone that whole time. It was pretty eye-opening. I thought I was pretty independent, and a pretty solitary being, but I really missed my wife. I thought I was looking forward to being a bachelor again, but I just wanted to see my girl.
We were able to speak every day thanks to the internets, and on one of the calls she happened to ask "Are you keeping the house clean?" My first instinct was to say "Yes," but then I quickly added, "it will be by the time you get home." This was a new experience for me, since my parents had typically employed a "Don't ask, don't tell" policy; as long as the house was clean at the end of the week, it didn't matter what happened before then.
However, I'm grateful for Kenia and the fact that she looks out for me (she has helped me understand that I should live in a clean space, whether or not she's home).
Anyway, we're very glad she's home, and she had a good experience. Being apart helped us appreciate having each other around, and, though we have since decided it's not likely in the near future for us, any consideration of having a career in Mexico has helped me appreciate Kenia's sacrifices to make her life here in this country. Ultimately, our goal is to combine our cultures and overcome our differences, and a willingness to compromise and make those kinds of sacrifices have already been vital to our young marriage.
